Everybody wants to be Hermès right now, and by everybody I mean all the other luxury brands. Hermès is sipping a piña colada, on a pool floatie, slathered in SPF, without a care in the world, whilst the other brands are floundering around, panicking and making questionable decisions.
By famously playing hard-to-get, they’ve become the crème de la crème of luxury fashion, such that even when the purse strings are being pulled for everyone else, they’re always kept open for Hermès. Don’t believe me? Their leather good sales were up 10% in the first quarter of this year. When you get that Hermès call, you come running. They even had a little “stick it to the man” moment recently by overtaking LVMH in becoming the most valuable luxury brand in the world (lest we forget, LVMH tried to buy them at one point). You kind of know you’re killing it when people are suing you because they played the Hermès game and lost…👀
